I must admit that when i first heard the song, I was a bit shocked and taken aback by how different this sounded to his previous stuff. The previous music which had set him apart from all the other male solo artists out there. It seemed to me that his folk sound that had stood out before had now been replaced by a punk loudness that I felt didn't really suit him. Also the whole dude shouting in the background in the video was kind of irritating and over exhaggerated.The aesthetics of the all black and white video showcasing just Jake himself and his elctric guitar are pretty different to his other videos adding an extra focus to the shift in which Buggs new album has undergone. However after listening to it, and after the initial shock and raised brows, I found myself humming the catchy tune and pressing play again. Sure, "What Doesnt Kill You" is a change but im sure his second alnum wont dissapoint me and still hold some of that country rock folk I love about him. Afterall its good for musicians to experiment.
